NATIONAL SORORITY OF PHI DELTA KAPPA, INC. • 80TH ANNUAL EASTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE
CONFERENCE THEME: PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER: SISTERHOOD, EDUCATION, AND CULTURAL RELEVANCY

In 2008 she became a case manager for the Truancy Program at Children & Families First.
This allowed her to have the best of both worlds, working in the schools with educators and
going to court with the families to advocate and support them. In 2009, she was assigned to a
new program, Children and Families First, Eastside Community Schools working at Bancroft
Elementary School. The program is designed to meet the basic needs of the students and
families at the elementary level to increase the rate of success. As a case manager she worked
side by side with the Site Coordinator to create and implement the program from the start.
Now as the Site Coordinator she creates, coordinates and implements educational programs for
the children, parents and community members through partnerships which includes after
school and summer programming. She coordinates and implements all community activities
for the students, parents and the community. This requires having a strong allegiance with the
administration, staff within the school and the district and also the community. In her
position she has helped to educate, employ and nurture 1000’s of people each year. Angela
THE NATIONAL SORORITY OF PHI DELTA KAPPA, INC. • 74TH ANNUAL EASTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE
has been on the Partnership Zone Planning Team, Priority School Planning Team and is
currently on the Facilities Strategic Planning Team.
Through a partnership with Beyond the Bars, Cultural Restoration Project the students
of Bancroft Elementary school after school program created a video “My City Needs
Something” which was featured in the local newspaper and on the local news channel and
video played and discussed on Good Morning America. It is these types of partnerships that
mean the most to Angela because she can make lifelong memories for the students and
families that could possibly change the trajectory of their lives. She was featured in the
local newspaper titled “Wilmington Educator Favors Professional Over Trendy” for her
fashion. During her 10-year tenure at Bancroft Elementary School she has earned a Masters
              in Elementary Education, K-6.
In 2014, Angela Myra Ringgold was invited to join the National Sorority of Phi Delta
Kappa, Inc, by a fellow teacher at Bancroft Elementary School. Since joining the sorority,
she has diligently been working and in any capacity necessary. She currently is the
Eastern Region Committee Chair for Constitution and By-Laws, 2nd Vice President of the
chapter, Youth Advisor and Chairman of the Audit Committee. Angela currently serves
on the following committees: Shepherds to the Homebound, KOT, Internal
Structure, Budget, Audit, Constitution and By-Laws, Leadership and Professional
Development, Krinon Club/Membership, Teach-A-Rama, Old School Dance, and
              Technology.
As an educator, Angela ensures she is using best practices, technology and innovative ideas
to develop challenging and engaging curricula. She offers emotional support and always acts
as a mentor or counselor. Becoming an educator isn’t easy and neither is being one,
but remembering why she got into this profession in the first place is what helps her to stay.
              Recommendations:
Chapters throughout the region have planned, organized and implemented a variety
of Awards Program designed to recognize and honor individuals who had demonstrated
Servant Leadership while engaged in commendable activities designed to enhance youth,
education, community and/or civic programs. Having attended several of these
programs, I can personally attest to the fact that Chapters have spared no expense in the
celebration of this aspect of the National agenda.
Regretfully, submission of individual chapter reports summarizing the disposition
of their programs and the nature of the recipient awards is a missed opportunity for a
total collaborative report of contributions made by NSPDK, Inc., Eastern Region.
Chapters are encouraged to submit a report of the facilitated awards program to the Regional
              Achievement/Citation Chair immediately following.

              Respectfully,
              Constance Young
