Green Mountain Research Employee Handbook
Staff must understand that some days will be exceptionally long and busy and other days will be
shorter and less busy. Employees are encouraged to flex their schedule as needed to meet
customer needs and to utilize their time wisely on the days when the work is slower. It is
anticipated regular full-time staff will average more than 40 hours per week, including travel
time. Contact your supervisor if you have questions about your work schedule.
Notification Procedures
When you are absent from work and your absence has not been previously scheduled, you
must personally notify your immediate supervisor or a member of the Executive Team as soon
as you are aware that you will be late or unable to report to work. Leaving a voicemail or
message with another staff member does not qualify as notifying your supervisor.
Breaks
The Company recognizes the value of refreshment gained from daily breaks where no work is
performed and the employee is able to totally disengage from duties. To the extent practical,
the supervisor will approve breaks during each day, while maintaining the level of staffing
required to meet customer needs. Lunch breaks (more than 20 minutes) are not compensable
to non-exempt employees. Rest breaks (20 minutes or less) are compensable. Rest breaks
should be recorded as time worked on your time record. It is our desire for employees to be
totally disengaged from work during their unpaid lunch. Therefore, no work is to be performed
by non-exempt employees during their unpaid lunch breaks.
In addition to the unpaid lunch break, employees will be allowed at minimum, a paid 10-minute
rest during every 4 hours of work.
Break Time for Nursing Mothers
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) allows employees to take reasonable, unpaid break time to
express breast milk as needed for up to one (1) year after the birth of a child. The Company will
provide a place for the employee to express milk (in close proximity to the work area), other
than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from co-workers and the
public. Employees will not be discharged or in any other manner discriminated against for
exercising their rights under this policy. This break may run concurrently with any break time
already provided to the employee.
Leaving Employment
