         Environmental
         Explore the exotic beauty of the Atchafalaya Swamp Basin, the largest over ow swamp in the US and home to a
         myriad of wildlife including several endangered and threatened species on a swamp tour.  Lesson plans are available.

           e Bayou Teche National Wildlife Refuge was created to protect the Louisiana black bear. Walking trails, hiking
         trails and paddling trails are located within the refuge. With advanced notice, a boat tour and refuge manager
         can be available.

         History
         Franklin is one of the most historic towns in St. Mary Parish.    ere are over 420 properties listed on the National
         Register of Historic Places.  Tour one of three homes, walk along Franklin’s historic main street, stop to view
         Bayou Teche or drive along Franklin’s oak draped boulevard.

         Culture
           e Sovereign Nation of the Chitimacha is the oldest Native Louisiana tribe living on indigenous land. Visit the
         museum to learn more. Other cultural activities include the Mr. Charlie or the International
         Petroleum Museum – where students can walk
