AVOYELLES PARISH CENTRAL LOUISIANA

Avoyelles (pronounced: a-VOY-ils) is the exact center point of
Louisiana and the essence of all that makes Louisiana special. The
beauty of nature serves as a backdrop to a vibrant arts community
and cultural attractions, stemming from our French-Creole and
          Native American Heritage.

Avoyelles is home to nine cities/municipalities and Louisiana’s
Tunica-Biloxi Tribe with its premier property, Paragon Casino Resort.
Much of Avoyelles is rural and unspoiled, known for its waterways,
charming main street towns, fertile fields, exciting festivals, historic
gems, and notable routes. The people of Avoyelles enjoy celebrating
festivals like Mardi Gras in the spring, an Egg Knocking Festival on
Easter weekend, the Cochon de Lait Festival in May as well as the
Tunica-Biloxi Pow Wow, the Louisiana Corn Festival in June, Avoyelles
Arts and Music Fest on July 4th and Christmas on the Bayou in
          December.

A walk down any main street in Avoyelles Parish will display the pride
each town takes in preserving history. Discover the story of Solomon
Northup, the main character in the movie Twelve Years a Slave, see
the home of one of the area’s first settlers, a bridge on the National
Register of Historic Places. Stop in at boutiques and antique shops
for unique handmade and one-of-a-kind gifts. All of what a visitor
comes to expect in Louisiana is here, with an authentic flair that is
often duplicated but never truly replicated, with gaming action
          visitors drive miles to experience.
