COME TASTE WHY THE NEW ORLEANS AREA IS LAUDED FOR
SOME OF THE MOST INVENTIVE AND DELICIOUS FOOD IN AMERICA
NEW ORLEANS
WOMEN LEADING THE WAY IN NEW ORLEANS
New Orleans is known for its top-notch restaurant scene, and you’ll find women at the helm of many of the city’s best establishments. From
James Beard Award-winning heavy hitters like Commander’s Palace to the immersive family-style experience at Mosquito Supper Club,
these restaurants are truly in a league of their own. Other notable female chefs and restauranteurs include fourth-generation New
Orleanian native Vyoone Lewis of Vyoone’s; Cambodian-American Chef Sophina Uong of Mr. Mao’s; James Beard award-winning
chef Nina Compton of Compere Lapin; and Chef Ana Castro of modern Mexica restaurant, Lengua Madre.
A BBQ “RENAISSAUCE”
Barbecue seems to be having a slow-smoked renaissance as it continues to shift from the no-fuss, casual cuisine into something equally
suited for both dining rooms and tailgates. New Orleans is no different and serves up its own spins on smoked meats and sides along
with the classic BBQ varieties. Sink your teeth into New Orleans’ “Best Barbecue in the World” at Blue Oak BBQ or the pork spare ribs
from award-winning newcomer Devil Moon BBQ. Jazz Fest favorite, Walker’s Southern Style BBQ, can be enjoyed year-round at their
restaurant in New Orleans East and longtime favorite, The Joint, is “always smokin” down in the Bywater.
EATING AND DRINKING FOR A GOOD CAUSE
New Orleans loves festivals, especially ones dedicated to eating or drinking. What’s even better is when the money generated from eating
and drinking goes toward a good cause. Each March, Hogs for the Cause earns money to support families of pediatric cancer patients.
Summer standout, Tales of the Cocktail, contributes to education, advancement and support for the hospitality industry. In September,
fest goers can support children with development disabilities by attending Beignet Fest. And back for the first time since COVID, NOLA
ON TAP is a beer-drinkers paradise that also benefits the Louisiana SPCA.

ASCENSION PARISH
Just as sugar coaxes out the flavor in everything it’s added to, the fusion of many influences and ethnicities in Ascension Parish add flavor
to its rich heritage of cultural and culinary traditions. These distinct accents and flavors are authentically tied to a “Sweet Spot” nestled
between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, a place at the heart of what makes Southern Louisiana such a special destination.
THE CROWN JEWEL OF THE RIVER ROAD
Every great culinary destination has an exceptional must see and taste in the South. For Ascension Parish, it’s “The Crown Jewel of the
River Road” and one of the South’s oldest and most beautiful estates, Houmas House and Gardens. It’s three restaurants, Latil’s Landing,
The Carriage House and Dixie Café, each provide guests with a culinary experience of a lifetime all on its own. Newly opened Dixie Café
has a full breakfast and lunch buffet of all Louisiana staple dishes. The Carriage House restaurant is casual dining in elegant surroundings of
the 1830’s and Latil’s Landing restaurant allows guest to dine in the original 1770’s French House while enjoying a custom 5 course tasting
menu with wine pairings.
