Switch Box
The Artsy Switch Box Project was developed by the Madison Area Arts Alliance to turn the gray
background of urban transportation utility boxes into conversational pieces. The Alliance’s goal
was to increase the beauty, fun, and visitation of Madison’s public spaces. Art was welcomed from
all ages and then each box design was fabricated from a picture of the artist’s submitted work and
turned into the slip cover for each switch box. This project, which began in 2018, was culminated in
late 2020 with the completion of over 20 switch boxes. The portraits shown below are just some of
the switch box designs that are featured around Jefferson County. Take a trip and try this Seek and
