Congratulations! Captain Jiles!
Jeffery Jiles is the nephew of Carrousel Mary Martin and
Carrafella John Martin. The University City Fire Department
celebrated Jeffery Jiles’ promotion to the rank of captain. He
had prior experience at the St. Louis Fire Department and
Jennings Fire Department. Jeff has proven what hard work
and dedication to his career can accomplish. The family is
very proud of Jeff’s promotion.

Carrousel Shirley Marie McCarther, Ed.D. has edited a book entitled
"Breakthrough: From Pandemic Panic to Promising Practice," with
Information Age Publishing. This is a volume in the History of Education
Series, which presents historical analyses and interpretations of
matters of concern to education. Each volume is developed and edited
in partnership with the Organization of Educational Historians, which,
since 1965, has endeavored to promote the pursuit of educational
history through opportunities for presentation and discussion of
papers at annual meetings, to advance and improve the teaching of
the history of education in institutions of higher education, to cultivate
fruitful relationships between scholars in the history of education, and to encourage promising
young scholars in the field of history of education. Carrousel Shirley Marie oversaw the development
of over 20 chapters by 60 scholars from around the world. Breakthrough shares the stories from
professionals in higher education, PK-12, and related fields who understood what it meant for
schooling to survive and thrive during the Covid-19 health catastrophe and devastating time in our
country’s history.
