MANAGING RISKS
Before undertaking any task, assess the risks, consider the non-exhaustive list: -
● Can you avoid the hazards by changing the system of work?
● Are you authorised to undertake the task by your supervisor?
● Do you have the correct work equipment?
● If working at height, is there a safe means of access?
● Is there safe access and egress, is there suitable and sufficient lighting?
● Will the task affect access or fire escape routes?
●Will there be hazardous interfaces? You need to consider how you prevent
injury to other workers.
● Will work equipment generate noise, do you need hearing protection?
● Will material be stored, is there a risk of someone tripping over materials?
● Are cable drums stored, are they chocked or laid flat?
● Can materials fall from height, can tool tethers be used?
● When moving or carrying materials, can mechanical aids be used, or if manual
handling cannot be avoided can team lifting be considered?
● Have you checked if live services are present? Consider all services as being
live, check with your supervisor.
●Obtain the necessary permissions, permits and authorisations by Jacobs and
STS management.
