Identification of underground services




                •     Documentation required prior to starting any excavation:
                      Approved SSoW/SOP/risk assessment/underground
                      service drawings/excavation permit/SPA. To be kept at work
                      location.
        11. Identification and Protection
                •     All known services to be identified prior to works
                      commencing.

                •     All known services to be marked on the ground prior to
                      excavation work commencing.
                •     CAT scanner to be used to determine the location of all
                      underground services.
                •     Services to be identified by marker posts to confirm the type
                      of service.

                •     Manholes and chambers in the vicinity of the work and in
                      adjacent buildings will be checked for any possible
                      anomalies before work on any excavation commences.
                •     Where non-metallic pipes are found a Sonde Transmitter
                      can be used in conjunction with the CAT scanner to
                      determine the location of non-metallic pipes.
                •     When working near exposed services, the services must to
                      be protected from impact.

                •     No machine excavation permitted within:
                        o    1m of HT cables

                        o    1.5m from natural gas line
                        o    1m from previously excavated natural gas line

                        o    600mm from other services
