Plant / machine spotters
This applies to all site machinery (MEWPs, Fork-lifts, Spotter too close to the machine
and not in the drivers sight-line
Teleporters ect.)
• It is site policy that all machines must have a designated
Spotter.
• The spotter must assist the driver when moving and
divert/stop other site traffic and pedestrians where
required.
• All site personnel must obey the instructions of spotters
on site when assisting site vehicles.
•
10. Vehicles • and ensure no one is moving or standing at a drivers Spotter maintain a safe distance
A spotter works with the machines operator when moving
blind spots. The spotter acts as eyes and ears for the
operators blind spots when a machine is being operated.
The spotter must also be competently trained. They need
and in the drivers sight-line
to understand the movements and machine controls e.g.
if the machine has pivoting wheels and where exactly the
blind spots are.
• The spotter must always be in seeing and calling distance
of the operator, when the machine is stationary.
• Operator must engage with Spotter before moving the
machine.
• Agreed procedure must be in place for operating through
restricted areas or compound where worker activities are
high.
• Be aware of weather restrictions, Live services and
ground conditions.
