Plant / machine operators
This applies to all site machinery (MEWPs, Fork-lifts, Teleporters
ect.)
• Operator must be competently trained in the use of the particular
machine.
• All plant must be inspected prior to use for defects, leaks, tyre
pressure etc.. the operator should also check that all safety
devices are functioning correctly e.g. reversing sirens/alarms,
horns and flashing beacons.
• Plant or machine operators ensure that their machine is fitted with
auxiliary devices to provide adequate vision (mirrors or CCTV).
10. Vehicles • Plant or machine operators must always engage with their

dedicated spotter before moving the machine.
Operators must give way to pedestrians at crosswalks (be aware
of pedestrians or workers in an area and keep a safe operating
distance)

Operators must have a plan in place and a risk assessment for the
safe loading and unloading of materials on site.
• Never operate machines outside of manufacturer’s guidelines.
• Ensure all loads are secure and strapped down before moving.
• Plant or machine operators must always wear a seatbelt when
operating a machine.
• Plant or machine operators must never operate a machine while
under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Plant or machine operators must never operate a machine while
using a mobile phone.
