voice. "Could you help me open this lid right up?" I heard the groan of metal
as the lid flap was raised further and it fell back with a very loud clang.

“Momentarily I was blinded by the extra

            light” Kentucky continued to his
enthralled listeners, “but then I saw an

angel, a vision of loveliness with golden
hair and the kindest eyes. She got
another person to hoist her up and hang

on to her ankles so she could reach in
and pick me up with the gentlest hands

            I’ve ever felt.

"Hello, little one", she murmured. "I
have no idea how you ended up in

there. I just can't believe that someone
would deliberately throw you in there -
but don't you worry, you're safe

now. No harm will ever come to you again as long as I've got breath in my
            body!"

"I didn't know it at the time, but I'd just
met one of the kindest people in the world,"

said Kentucky. Her and her partner took me
to the local Police Station and sat me on the

counter. They were horrified to see that I
had a raffia type collar around my neck that
had become so tight that my skin had grown

over it. The policeman told them that if I
were left there, I may be shot as there

were no local pounds to take me to.
