HIGH POTENTIAL
ACHIEVERS
HIGH POTENTIAL ACHIEVERS (HPA) IS A MULTI-YEAR CO- HORT PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES HIGH ACHIEVING STU- DENTS WITH ADVANCED ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT IN STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH), CRITICAL WRITING AND OTHER COLLEGE PREPARATORY DISCIPLINES.
HPA focuses on 3 key areas:
1. Advanced instructional programs and seminars in
STEM
2. Academic and college advisement
3. Academic enrichment coursework in preparation for college enrollment
HPA is open to 10th and 11th grade students, who reside in The Bronx, are part of The Bronx GEAR UP Network program (BGUN), and maintain an 85% or higher grade point average.
The HPA program exposes students to advanced instruction that will push them ahead of their peers when it comes to both practical knowledge and test scores. During advisement with experienced school counselors, students hone their interests, research colleges and scholarships, and complete applications that will help them apply to competitive colleges and universities.
The HPA Academy program meets every Saturday from 9:30am to 3:15pm during the fall and spring semesters. There is also the Summer Scholars Institute, a 5-week summer session where students attend classes Monday through Friday on the Lehman College campus. During the summer, we offer SAT verbal and math preparation courses while also participating in science lab classes.
