per year? That is 5% more than the $3,106 that the private sector
provides for a 55-year-old with an annual salary of $75,000, the value of
health insurance benefits would total $5,410 per year. That is 2.8% more
               than the $5,265 private-sector employee.
All federal employees accrue four hours of sick leave for each two
weeks worked on the Disability and Sick Leave. Sick leave can also be
used to care for family member needs. The Family Medical Leave Act
provides for up to 12 weeks of time off (using accrued leave or leave
without pay) per year for medical emergencies. Sick leave may be
accumulated from year to year. This sick leave accumulation is intended
to be your short-term disability coverage. A federal employee’s sick leave
and disability benefits are far greater than those of private-sector
employees to the tune of about 10% across the board. A wise man once
told me that the grass may look greener on the other side, but when you
get over there, that grass has to be mowed too!
