“But-”
“Please Darian, the village is collapsing. If we don’t leave we’ll die!”
He hesitantly nodded and together we ran downstairs and out of the hostel. The
glow of the lava creeped closer, the smell of rotting eggs and smoke rose into the air. Darian stared at the Temple that was nothing but rubble in shock and despite my pulling he did not budge.
“We have to go! It’s getting closer!” I urged, very much panicking.
“How?! How did this happen? I thought you were kidding but- I-” He whispered, utterly in despair.
“PLEASE, DARIAN.”
“We have to help the others evacuate!”
“It’s too late for them! We have to save ourselves.”
He looked at me, tears streaming down his face. I grabbed his hand and dragged
him along the best I could. The gates that once stood tall had toppled over from the shocks, allowing us to just run out. We didn’t stop, not until we were far enough away. The lava’s glow overtook the rest of Arasta Village and minutes later the buildings were nothing but dust in the wind. I collapsed to the ground, heavily panting. The scroll in my clothes fell to the ground beside me. Darian watched wordlessly as the Holy Capital was buried under lava. He remained in that state for a long while until he sat next to me and hugged me close.
“I’m glad you are okay, I’m so glad.” “Y-yeah...”
