Context building
and neighborhood
The building that will be discussed in the fol-
lowing three scenarios is situated in 45-47
Fritz Toussaint street, on the corner with Ju-
liette Wytsman street, in the Brussels com-
mune of Ixelles. In the current urban zoning
plan this building’s parcel, together with the
site of the former military barracks on the
other side of the street, is coloured in as “area
for facilities of collective importance or public
services” . The other surrounding parcels are

mainly residential.
The building was probably built around 1913,
and served as an elderly home for a while. Si-

use was by the Federal Police. The building

is owned by Regie der Gebouwen/Régie des
Bâtiments, the federal real estate manager.
The USquare definition study included this
building (lot), but it seems this was only be-
cause the Régie des Bâtiments no longer
wants it. 5
