Be aware of standards of attainment achieved and expected within each year group as
well as:
Understand high yield, research based methods that can be used to deliver teaching and
learning in Art, Music, and PE and speaking (oral language) development such as: Topic language –
teachers will introduce, model and act in ways to teach positional language such as up/down;
over/under/behind/in front of as well as language related to subjects in English and maths in PE,
Music, and Art; encourage free choice and participation by all so that no child is ‘waiting for their
turn!‘
Encourage risk taking, “have a go” attitude.
Provide success criteria but encourage child to make original ideas for their own product –
value process over product (Post “WALT” Statements with wall art displays)
Other strategies include lessons that involve you to:
Teach t
Teacho small groups intentionally each day for no more than 5 minutes based on student needs and
strengths. You must make written observations using assessment tools (post its, tracking checklist
sheets, anecdotally). You can also teach with large groups to expand and rehearse oral language
concepts in a song or collective game and to introduce the day’s activities, celebrate and review the
lesson at the end. This should not include hand raising or take more than 5 minutes both at the
beginning of the lesson and at the end of the lesson. Children should all speak as a rehearsal and
should all move to build gross motor strength rather than “waiting for a turn”.
Observe
Observe children as they play - You must make written notes as you walk around and focus on
groups of children playing with their peers, allowing space and independence for children to pursue
authentic learning. You model subject-related language and repeat what they say to build on their
vocabulary.
Play, move, and sing with the children as they “work” on the activities or games or
songs.
