                             How does EPG promote ‘Literacy’?

When the word ‘Literacy’ comes to mind, it is often thought of within the boundaries
of the English or Arabic language and reading.

At EPG, we recognise that literacy goes beyond those areas and can be promoted
across all areas of the curriculum.

Our teachers, may they be teaching English, Arabic, Maths, Arts, Music or PE,
incorporate a range of different activities and forms of communication in their daily
                             interaction with their children.

They use verbal pathways as they teach letter & number formation. They model
descriptive language by giving detailed instructions when teaching dances &
games. Essential Questions are also asked at the start of each lesson to provoke
children’s thoughts and encourage participation in whole class discussion. Small
group session is another platform for children to verbally share their ideas. Storytelling,
drawing, music, visual arts and drama are also staple class activities.

How can you promote ‘Literacy’ at home?

Regularly talking and interacting with your child extend their language & listening
skills, and help grow their con dence with language.

                             - Include your child when discussing everyday activities such as grocery shopping,
watching their favourite show, travelling in the car.
                             - Visiting places can also provide a world of new vocabulary. Discussion during
outings can enrich your child’s understanding of the world.
                             - Play ‘I Spy’ to identify objects associated with letters, numbers, patterns or shapes
and to serve as conversation starters.
                             - When reading to your child, read stories with expression, or try putting on the
voices of characters. This will help make reading fun.
