                                                Gran’s Phone

JAXON HEADS BACK downstairs in a flash, anxious to see who else is visiting him today.
He scans the living room again and notices his grandmother’s old telephone is still gone. His

mom told him she kept Gran’s phone to remind her how much the phone has changed over the
               years.

Jaxon remembers when he first saw the telephone, a few years ago. His mom brought it up
from the basement. He had no clue what it was. It was so clunky looking and had a dial with
numbers on it. It was hard to believe they used to use it instead of a cell phone. He couldn’t figure
out how it worked until his mother used it to call his father at work one day.
He takes a good breath to calm himself and says aloud, “Where’s Gran’s phone?” expecting

someone to show up. And sure enough, someone does.
“Well, that’s a long story,” answers a thin, dark man standing in the middle of the living room.
“But, I’ll keep it short and sweet. You see, Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone,
actually used some of my technology for his telephone. Do you know what a telegraph is?
“N-n-no, I never heard of it,” replies Jaxon, taking another deep breath to calm himself while
he waits for the explanation he’s pretty sure is coming.
