“No way! That’s awesome! Ah man, my Uncle Reggie should be here. He’d have a thousand
questions for you. He’s the computer genius in the family.”
“That’s good you have someone close who can help you navigate through computer
problems when they come up. You’re pretty good with the computer, too. I checked out some of
what you have on your laptop.”
“And like Mr. Love said, Jaxon,” Mr. Dean continues, “you can’t always see us, but we’re
always just a wish away.” He bows and vanishes, just as Jaxon is saying “show me.”
Mr. Matzeliger disappears also, along with Mr. Love. Poof! Just like that!
Jaxon sits down on his bed and thinks about what Mr. Dean told him. So many crazy thoughts
are running around his brain. I’m only 9 years old. Am I special?
He’s holding his head down and sees his tennis shoes next to his feet. He looks up and sees
his laptop and pencil sharpener are back on his desk.
“For real?” he says out loud.
Then he gets a brilliant idea.
What if I wish for all the styles and colors of MJ sneakers? Can’t be that many, could it?
Yeah, Raimy said to be careful what I ask for, but what harm would it be to wish for tennis
shoes?
Jaxon really, really wants a pair, but his mom refuses to pay over $100 for tennis shoes. So he
decides to make another wish. He says, “Just imagine, I have all the MJ sneakers and colors in my
size, in my bedroom, right now.”
All of a sudden, it’s pitch black in his room, and he can hardly breathe. The smell of new
rubber shoes is overpowering. He’s lying on his stomach, face down, on the floor with a ton of
tennis shoes on top of him. He turns his head a bit, but he can’t see anything. He tries not to
panic, but he’s scared. He doesn’t like the dark. He starts to feel a little dizzy.
