Chapter 6 Hobbies and Interests
Unit 1: Watching TV
There are different types of TV shows or what we call TV genres. The popular ones
are soap operas, sitcom, cartoons, sports, news and reality shows. Talk about the
genre of shows you usually watch.
Answer A:
I like watching comedy shows. After a stressful day in school, I turn on the TV and switch
channels to find one. My family and I watch the programs together. This is the moment when
my family spends a bonding time. We always laugh hard when we watch a comedy show. We
sometimes see ourselves in the characters. They usually make fun out of themselves. They go
through events in a comical way. The usual stories are everyday happenings like in the office, in
school, or at home. They make these interesting by giving it a twist of humor. The genre is usually
light, so it tends to make us forget our problems. Comedy shows are beneficial to me because
they relieve my stress. I also heard that laughter is the best medicine. Maybe that’s a reason why
I stay healthy even when I’m stressed with studying!
