Chapter 5 Spare Time Activities
Unit 2: Eating Out
Some people dine out frequently; some opt to do so only during special occasions.
Try to relate a present-day trend in dining out and your thoughts about it.
Answer A:
I do love dining out, but I only eat out occasionally. My parents tell me always that the global
recession should give me the lessons to live well. Last night, I had dinner in the center of Seoul
with some of my friends. We love eating out every Friday or Saturday nights, but recently, we
decided doing it once a month. As a group, we chip in when settling the bill. In today’s times,
you have to save every ounce of money you have. As I am a student, I only get money from my
allowance, and if lucky, from a part-time job. I am not from a well-off family. Thus, when we dine
out, we make sure that a very special occasion is celebrated, like a birthday or an anniversary.
At this point, we really take pleasure in spooning delicate soup or forking tender steaks. It makes
eating out a bit more special.
Points to emphasize in answering:
Start the discussion by mentioning how often you dine out.
Mention the people you have dinner with.
Discuss further about the things you consider in dining out.
State your final thoughts about the topic.
