6 Many snakes do not see or hear
very well. They rely on smell to find
their food. But they don’t use their
nostrils to smell. Those are for
breathing. Instead, a snake constantly
flicks its long tongue in and out. It
catches tiny scent particles in the air.
Then it carries them to smell detectors
in its mouth.

7 An elephant can grab and pick up anything from a small
coin to a large man with its trunk. It sucks up water with its
trunk. Then it sprays the water into its mouth for a drink or
over its back for a shower. It can even use its trunk
to trumpet loud warnings and calls.
nostrils Nostrils are openings in a nose that take in air for
breathing or smelling.
trumpet If you trumpet a message, you say it loudly and
forcefully.
