GENRE STUDY Informational texts give facts and examples
about a topic.
• Authors of informational texts may organize their ideas using
headings and subheadings. The headings and subheadings
tell readers what the next section of text will be about.
• Informational texts include visuals, such as charts, diagrams,
graphs, timelines, and maps. These visuals help readers better
understand when, how, and where certain events took place.
