Machu Picchu stands on a remote ridge in the Andes
mountains, around 8,200 ft. (2,500 m) above sea level.
The town, overlooked by towering peaks, was
abandoned by the Incas. Amazingly the Spanish never
found it during the 300 years that Peru was part of
the Spanish Empire.
