GENRE STUDY Mysteries are stories in which the main
character sets out to solve a mystery, crime, or other puzzle.
• Mysteries might include foreshadowing, or hints at future
events, which may give readers clues.
• Mysteries use dialogue to help develop the story. Authors may
also include detailed descriptions of characters' observations
and feelings.
• Mysteries might be told in third-person point of view, by an
outside observer.
