In 2002, five years before Ban was first elected as U.N.
secretary general, 219 Koreans worked at the United
Nations. Recently, that number nearly doubled to 398.
During his first term, Ban focused on global warming,
peace in the Middle East and human rights abuses in
Darfur. He promised to keep working on these issues in
his second term.
