DMTC Recognizes Service of Welding Instructor David Hoppes
Welding instructor (and former DMTC student)
th
David Hoppes is completing his 28 year of in-
struction. He became interested in welding
after his homeroom teacher at SHS first told him
about Daniel Morgan and the classes it offered.
His family members were involved in trades
such as masonry, carpentry, and machine tool,
and Hoppes chose welding since it was a skill to
which he had not yet been exposed. Once he
graduated and had a few years of work experi-
ence, he completed the Welding Program at Spartanburg Community College after
which he worked at various companies in the welding industry for the next 16 years.
Upon hearing of the retirement of his former welding instructor, he decided to apply
for the job and has been at Daniel Morgan ever since. He is only the second welding
instructor to teach at DMTC since the doors opened in 1968. Hoppes decided to
teach because he loves the idea of passing on his knowledge to students. In his spare
time, he flies small, remote-controlled airplanes which he designs, fabricates, and
constructs himself. The students at DMTC are lucky to have such a highly-skilled and
compassionate instructor. Thank you Mr. Hoppes for all your years of service.
