Engaging on Facebook
Facebook is more a community than a shop window, so you have to find ways of generating discussion and a ‘buzz’ about your content rather than merely posting a pretty picture that people will like.
Show your character, Social media is supposed to be social!;
• Ask questions, and use fill-in-the-blank posts;
• Use great pictures;
• Use Insights to analyse your most popular posts and find out why they’re successful;
• Provide behind-the-scenes footage;
• Stay specific and keep it short and snappy;
• Create or join a Facebook group;
• Add a call to action button, eg to contact you using Messenger or click through to your website;
• Get to know your audience;
• Share your fans’ content;
• Use Facebook stories;
• Appreciate your followers by replying quickly (within four hours) to any comments;
• Have fun and make people laugh;
• Post quizzes and how-to guides;
• Use strong headlines (without resorting to clickbait) - five times as many people read headlines
as body text;
• Incorporate ‘power words’ such as ‘always’, ‘never’, emotional adjectives or words implying
exclusivity such as ‘secret’ or ‘new’;
• Make it personal by addressing your readers as ‘you’;
• Use listicles such as ‘10 Ways to drink St Maur’;
• Boost your posts. Just click on the Boost Post button on any post and choose your target
audience, budget and duration before previewing it and then selecting a payment method The number of people reached depends on how much you spend, but the minimum is only £1 a day
A word of caution.......DO NOT just throw money art FaceBook adverts as it can get out of hand very quickly.
Community engagement
Recently when I came up and met you all I came away with a bottle in my car. I dashed back to Devon as it was Valentines day and we were having dinner out with friends at a local pub.
