We can still see traces of the VOC's activities
through approximately 25 million pages of
archives that are now kept in Jakarta, Colombo,
Chennai, Cape Town, and The Hague. The VOC
archives are one of the most comprehensive
historical records of the early modern world,
containing information on politics, economics,
culture, society, and trade. Due to the wealth of
data contained within them, the VOC archives
have been recognized as Memory of the World
register by UNESCO in 2003 by Netherlands,
Indonesia, Sri Lanka and South Afrika.
