Nāgarakrětāgama
Nāgarakrětāgama
Indonesia
The Kakawin Nāgarakrĕtāgama is one of the
greatest literary works from the glorious era
of Majapahit in the 14th century. Written by
a court poet named Rakawi Prapañca or
Mpu Prapañca.
This manuscript not only captures the
splendor of the kingdom, but also serves as
valuable testimony to the leadership of a
king in the archipelago who upheld the
values of social justice, religious freedom,
personal security, and the welfare of the
people, a view that was remarkably
progressive for its time, when absolute
power was still the norm.
Being created in 1365 AD, Nāgarakrĕtāgama
is not merely a historical record, but a
special manuscript containing progressive
principles of governance. More than six
centuries later, the ideas in this manuscript
remain relevant and continue to inspire the
modern world.
