and support go well beyond the role of photographer. I am so grateful for the beautiful images and visual storytelling that she
gifts to all of us,” adds Steven Karidoyanes.
One-hundred-plus Phil events later, Maccaferri’s work captures some of the most iconic moments in the Phil’s history. From the
orchestra’s centennial celebration, to Steven Karidoyanes’ 20th and 25th anniversary seasons, plus many gala parties and annual
July 4th waterfront concerts, Denise Maccaferri has been the person behind the camera.
When asked about her start in photography, she explains that for as long as she can remember, she has been the person with the
camera. “From my early years through adulthood, I have been the one to photograph the good times with family and friends,”
says Maccaferri. “The point and shoot film cameras, then early days of digital, were inexpensive, but the memories are priceless.”
One of her favorite genres is what she calls “Stage Presence Photography,” capturing special moments of area performances,
such as the Phil, and those at The Spire, Break-A-Leg Theatre Group, Americana Theatre Co, plus individual musicians and singer-
songwriters.
