Chapter 3

                                                       Selection

Selecting hairs for length and colour:

When the hair arrives at the factory it has to be selected into different

groups. This process can only be done by hand, making it quite costly as
the operator selecting the hair can only separate about one Kilo per day.

Initially each hair has to be checked to see if there are any Lice or eggs on
the hair. Next all the white hairs have to be removed from the bundle and

saved for producing lighter colours. Using these white hairs eliminates

any damage that may be caused by bleaching black hair to very light

blonde. Then all hairs are separated into individual piles of matching

                   lengths and colours.

Both Remi and Non-Remi hair have to go through all of the above checks

and separations. Also, the hair ball has to be carefully undone and

separated, so that the same checks can be carried out on all the hairs from

the ball. Only after all the hair has been checked and divided into

different lengths and colours, can it be stored with the rest of the stock

waiting to be converted into hair products. Remi and Non-Remi hair

supplies are always stored separately, and never mixed during the

                   manufacturing process. Fig 4 & Fig 5.
