There seems to be three main types of bases that are known as national

health bases, because they are the same as the type of wig that Cancer

patients get from the national health.

Base 1 A complete net base with Oriental Remi, Non-Remi hair or

synthetic fibre hand knotted all over to create; either 100% human hair or

synthetic fibre wigs.

Base 2 Net sections for the top and over each ear, with hand knotted

Remi, Non-Remi hair or synthetic fibre, are sewn into a base made of

elastic tapes, with Remi, Non-Remi or synthetic wefts sewn to them

Base 3 Completely made of elastic tape with Remi, Non-Remi hair and

synthetic fibre sewn on to it. In some cases, a section that contains a

simulated hair parting is also sewn in.

Integration is made using 100% Remi Hair that is hand knotted into three

strips of elastic thread, which is then sewn into a design that resembles a

hair net.

Toupees are custom made and from existing stock. Custom made toupees
are made from a pattern of the client’s area of baldness, and a hair sample

showing the length, colour and thickness.

Stock toupees are in varying sizes and many colours. The closest colour
and size are chosen, and then the hairdresser cuts the toupee to fit and

blend with the clients own remaining hair.
