Olivia Butts is a recent graduate of Kenwood Academy High School where she graduated with a 3.29 GPA (4.0 scale).
During her time at Kenwood, Olivia successfully completed the Black Girls Code, a STEM program for girls, and received honorable mention in the Ninth MCTA Chinese Speech contest. Oliivia received her Certificate of Accomplishment for participation in the Wanxiang Group and Guangzhou Wanxiang Polytech for CPS, which is a six-week immersion experience focusing on clean energy initiatives and technology in China. Olivia also received a Certificate of Completion at the Special Reporting and Commentary Academy at Columbia Links, which teaches journalism skills and leadership. Olivia served as the secretary for the Kenwood Women’s Alliance and is a senior lead for KENTalks, a school organization that brings speakers to her school.
As a musician, Olivia plays the cello for the Apostolic Church of God Youth Orchestra and serves as the Assistant Director for the church’s Voice Academy.
Much of Olivia’s time spent volunteering was as a leader for the G.R.A.C.E. (Godley Young Women Reaching After Charm and Elegance) at the Apostle Church of God. Olivia has served as a mentor to teenage girls, visited nursing homes, participated in Jackson Park clean ups, and volunteered for local food drives.
Olivia has not decided which college she will be attending this fall.
Hannah Glass is a recent graduate of Lindblom Math & Science Academy where she graduated with a 4.35 GPA.
While at Lindblom, Hannah was an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society and active participant of her school’s yearbook committee. Her senior year, Hannah held three leadership positions, serving as the captain of her varsity track and field team, cross country team, and pep squad. To further develop her leadership skills, Hanna participated in the National Student Leadership Conference at Harvard Medical School, where she worked alongside teens from all over the country on leadership activities developed to engage future community leaders. Hannah was also a member of Chicago Urban League.
An active volunteer, Hannah used her time and skills both locally and globally. Locally, Hanna volunteered with The Jesse Brown V.A. Hospital, coordinated her school’s clothing drive, and served as an assistant teacher at an elementary school. This past summer, Hannah was selected for the Global Glimpse program in the Dominican Republic. During her time with Global Glimpse, Hannah and her team helped rebuild the impoverished community, Canada de Las Palmas.
Hannah currently works for Safety Service Systems Inc. She has not yet decided which college she will be attending this fall.
About Back 2 School Illinois
Back 2 School Illinois (B2SI) is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to provide educational opportunities that enrich the lives of Illinois children. B2SI operates the largest free school supplies program in the state, which serves to equip children of low-income households for success in the classroom while lessening the financial burden felt by their families. The Back 2 School program has provided almost 200,000 children with their own school supply kits since its inception. The long-term goal is to provide the more than one million Illinois children from low-income families each year with the school supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.
