BACK 2 SCHOOL ILLINOIS BRINGS SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO UNDERSERVED CHICAGO STUDENTS
Local Non-Profit Hosts Illinois’ Largest School Supply Distribution Event & Activity Day
On Wednesday, August 8, Back 2 School Illinois (B2SI) will host the organization’s largest school supply distribution event of the year at the Broadway Armory Park. Over 14,000 Back 2 School kits, filled with more than 420,000 school supplies will be trucked in, sorted and given to representatives of 50+ YMCA full-service and affiliate sites for distribution to children in the Chicagoland area, ensuring these at-risk kids have the school supplies they need to begin the school year.
Additionally, 300-400 students (ages 6-12) from the YMCA of Metro Chicago, Vietnamese Association of Illinois and Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago will be on hand to for 3.5 hours participate in a series of activities, ranging from aerobics to interactive science experiments to arts & crafts and an exotic animal show – designed to excite, educate, inspire and prepare them to go back into the classroom.
WHEN: Wednesday, August 8th | 8:30 a.m. — 4 p.m.
§ 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 am Semi-trucks full of school supplies will arrive at the Broadway Armory where volunteers
will unload and sort the school supply kits.
§ 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. 300-400 students ages 6-12 will take part in numerous interactive activities and demonstrations that seek to encourage, inspire and educate the children in a fun-filled atmosphere
§ 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. School supply kit distribution
§ 1:00pm - 4:00pm Trucks, vans, and buses will be loaded up with Back 2 School kits to be taken to YMCA’s
and YMCA affiliate sites throughout Chicago and the suburbs

WHY: For over a decade, B2SI has sought to ensure that all Illinois students have the tools they need to prepare them not only for the upcoming academic year, but also to develop the confidence they need for successful futures. Since its inception, B2SI has provided almost 200,000 children with their own school supply kits. The organization’s long-term goal is to provide the more than 1.2 million Illinois children from low-income families each year with the school supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.
