I remember an Igbo adage my mother always use for us whenever
she is angry: My child has passed me or beyond my control is
deception and My child don't die, don't die yet the child is dying. It
means sometimes in order for our child not to cry or die we withhold
discipline just like what we are seeing in the Western world which is
gradually being practiced in our school system now, yet the children
are dying mentally, morally, emotionally, spiritually and physically
we are destroying them. With the kind of parenting we see and
admonition today we see our society dying as a result the future is
dying because they are our future. Another one is that she strongly
believes that “Abelmoschusesculentus (in Igbo Okro) cannot grow
taller than the owner; In other words, a child cannot be bigger than
the parents, that you don't know how to bend them or to discipline
them to listen and behave” or cannot over grow the parents control.
Also no matter how elevated you get in life, you can't surpass the
hand that groomed you. We need to stay positive and speak
positively about ourselves and our children. Cry does not kill a child;
neither does the rod of correction kill.
Discipline is one of the most integral parts of raising godly
children for we know the Lord disciplines those he loves (Proverb
3:12). Discipline is an act of love, for whom the Lord loves He
discipline. No one disciplines the one he hates so it is confusing
when people say discipline with love. The statement shows that
we don't know what discipline is. Discipline is also a command
from God; it is biblical so if you fail to do it, you’re disobeying
God. It also means you hate your children
