2. CAN I MIX MY
BUSINESS WASTE?
Answer: Yes and no. It depends
on your size, location, waste
streams and whether or not your
waste goes to a Material Recycling
Facility (MRF).
TEEP (Technically, Environmentally,
Economically, Practicable) was a regulation
introduced in January 2015 by the Environment
Agency, requiring both public and private waste
collections to ‘separate collection’ of paper,
plastic, metal and glass for recycling with the
aim of increasing the quality and quantity of
recycled materials by reducing contamination.
By applying the TEEP test, a supplier should
be committed to ensuring that your waste is
collected in its separate streams, helping you
achieve your sustainability goals even while
reducing costs.
In 2018, Scotland introduced a new initiative
to achieve their goal of no food waste going to
landfill by 2020. This means that all food waste
producers have a legal responsibility to separate
food from general waste.
