FINANCE CORPS HISTORY (CON’T)
COL (R) Zimmerman graduated from the National War College in 2011, and was selected by Mr.
Mark Peterson to serve as the Director of Special Programs at the United States Special Operations
Command. This role included management of national and military intelligence program dollars,
engagements with Congressional oversight, and collaboration with joint partners for air, sea, land,
and cyber intelligence requirements. He credits his successful to the mentoring from MSG (R)
Michaela White, Ms. Sandy Parisi, COL (R) Fran Machina, LTC Brian Roberts, LTC (R) Claude
Barfield, and SFC (R) Frank Brown.
COL (R) Zimmerman served his final assignment on active duty as the G8, United States Army
Intelligence and Support Command (INSCOM) where LTC (R) George Mancini, COL (R) Kevin
Hawkins, MAJ (R) Ty Purnell, and LTC Adrian Plater enabled continued success. COL (R) retired in
2017 with more than 26 years of dedicated service. After retirement, COL (R) Zimmerman accepted
his current position as NGA Comptroller and is appointed as an Intelligence Officer and senior
executive.
Mr. Zimmerman holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Alaska
Anchorage, a Master’s of Strategic Studies from the National War College, and additional
certifications including DoD Financial Management Level 3, Project Management Professional
(PMP), Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM), and Certified Government Financial Manager
(CGFM). He credits his military career successes to the many mentors and teammates named
above in addition to COL (R) Eldon Mullis, COL (R) Mike Schroeder, COL (R) Alan Lindley, CSM (R)
Pantoja, CSM (R) Toney, and SGM (R) Rhonda Thomas-Evans. And a special shout out to a lifetime
friend, then-2LT and now BG Paige Jennings.
COL Zimmerman (R) resides in Stafford, Virginia with his wife of 32 years, Corinne. They have two
th
sons, Eric and Nathan. 2LT Eric Zimmerman serves with the 1/504 , 82d Airborne Division in
military intelligence, and CDT Nathan Zimmerman is a graduating senior from Christopher Newport
University who will serve our Army as a field artillery officer.
COL (R) Zimmerman is an honored recipient of the Nathan Towson Medallion from the Finance
Corps Association and the Knowlton Award from the Military Intelligence Corps Association. His
military service awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star,
among others, and he is qualified to wear the Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and
multiple foreign jump wings. He is also a major contributor to the Finance Corps Association.
Today, we salute COL (R) Chris Zimmerman for his faithful ongoing service of more than 32 years
to the Finance Corps and the United States of America. Thank you, Sir -- “To Support and Serve”!
