Joint Qualification
In order for an officer to be fully joint-qualified, he/she must have the required amount of joint experience, education,
and training. There are two methods that exist to receive these qualifications: Standard Joint Duty Assignment (S-
JDA) and Experience Joint Duty Assignment (E-JDA); or a combination of both. The standard (S-JDA) method for
joint qualification is acquired when an officer is nominated by his/her assignment officer for a Joint Duty Assignment
List (JDAL) billet to a joint organization, for a specified amount of time. The officer is then assigned against that
position and serves the full tour. Once the full tour is completed, the officer will receive full tour credit for the
assignment and become joint qualified. The experience (E-JDA) method is when an officer self-nominates in the
Joint Qualification System (JQS).
