THE WORLD FELLOWSHIP OF BUDDHISTS
World Fellowship of Buddhists is an international religious
organization that was established in Sri Lanka since B.E. 2493
The (1950) with ‘The WFB’ as its acronym. Its Headquarters is in
Bangkok, Thailand with 205 Regional Centres in 50 countries worldwide. Since
the old times that teaching of the Buddha was propagated, time and changing
of the world has flourished practice and understanding of Buddhism into various
denominations and traditions namely Theravada, Mahayana or Vajrayana and so many sects. Since
then Buddhism was disseminated from Asia to other countries and continents on their own way
of denominations and practices, even so we are all disciples of one and only the Lord Buddha.
Executives of Japan Buddhist Federation (JBF), a sole Regional Centre in Japan of The WFB
representing Japanese Buddhism communities, currently act as Patrons of The WFB, a Vice-
President, an Executive Council Member, and the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on
Humanitarian Services.
Since the establishment of The WFB, General Conference is held every two years to formulate
and outline strategies and policies including make plans for the future.
Japan has been the venue of the General Conference for four times, the 2 General Conference

in September B.E. 2495 (1952), the 12 General Conference in October B.E. 2521 (1978), the 24 th

General Conference in November B.E. 2551 (2008), and this time the 29 General Conference
th
in November B.E. 2561 (2018), which the 20 General Conference of the World Fellowship of
th
Buddhist Youth (WFBY), and the 11 Meeting of the World Buddhist University (WBU) Council
th
will take place at the same time.
