Phra Shakyavongsvisuddhi (Anil Sakya) introduced himself World Buddhist University
Rector as of 18 September B.E. 2560 (2017).
Review of Report (WBU Rector’s Report: WBU 2017 - 2018)
Phra Shakyavongsvisuddhi (Anil Sakya) spoke about what he did in the name of WBU in
the last 2 years. Detail is in the book however he will discuss the highlights.

The WBU was created at the 20 WFB General Conference at Wollongong, Australia in

B.E. 2541 (1998) following the model of the UN University in Tokyo. It is a university without
walls. It has no campus or student body. Promoting good education in Buddhism to Buddhist
institutions around the world.
4 Institutions, 4 kinds of work:
1. Institute of research and publication – makes research relevant. Studies all Buddhist
traditions and understanding
2. Institute of spiritual practice – promotes teachings and practice from the three main
traditions
3. Institute of training and curriculum development – external degree program in 2 levels
at institutes of education.
4. Institute of Education – economical, ecology, peach studies. Translated basic Buddhist
scriptures from Pali to other languages so they can be of use. Provides worldwide WBU
through website and helps to maintain volunteer programs.
Main purpose of WBU as a NFP is to coordinate to exchange academic work, research at
academic level. To involve Buddhism in solving world crisis’.
