As part of the employee survey conducted in 2017, a need was identified to provide a training program for our foremen. To address this, Dufferin Construction established a core team of individuals and a stakeholder
group to brainstorm topics, modes of facilitation and to identify eligible trainees. Various stakeholders and subject-matter experts were consulted in order to professionalize the program and

     implement the training schedule.
Over the course of 13 months, and with the assistance of a third- party training consultant, five key modules were created that focused on leadership, planning and scheduling, health and safety, production, and quality. Over a subsequent period of five months, over 100 foremen and superintendents were trained and improved processes and work practices were adopted, including short- interval-planning scheduling, a daily foreman diary process and weekly meetings with site superintendents.
One of the main goals of the program was to standardize and share best practices between all foremen, no matter their level of seniority. Having a formal training program has also enabled our foremen to become better leaders and coaches. Now, foremen are directly involved in the planning, progression of work and the staffing of a project. And ensuring the adoption of standardized and best practices in our day-to-day operations ultimately helps improve our operational performance.
