James “Daddy Burns"
A local law man and town schoolteacher. James
is in love with Reina and tries to keep a steady
hand in keeping the law. He is bilingual, due to
the fact that Los Angeles was originally Mexico
when it was originally owned by Mexico. He is
known to be the only man in town with
integrity.
Inspired by the character of James Burns, who
opened a crossroads school in a tent in 1854 and was
appointed U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of
California. While teaching, he served as the 10 th
Sheriff of Los Angeles, Tax Collector and a charter
member of the first fire company in Los Angeles in
1869. He succeeded in turning the tide of crime
toward a more peaceful and law-abiding community.
