2. Paris Chic:
Vendome, St Honoré, Montaigne
At the end of the 19th century, with the opening of the Ritz Hotel, the
jewelers historically established on rue de Rivoli were attracted to
settle in Place Vendome, which would become the world capital of
jewelry and luxury.
While rue St Honoré, which connected Les Halles to the Palais Roya,l
has been a very busy street since the 12th century. It’s only from the
19th century, with the Elysee Palace became the residence of the
French Presidents, surrounded by many luxury hotels, that rue St
Honoré saw the emergence of many luxury and exclusive shops.
Today, rue St Honoré is the luxury and fashion showcase of France
(Chanel, Hermès and other prestigious brands).
It’s only in the 1980’s that Avenue Montaigne really became the high
fashion street (Dior, Luis Vuitton,…).
