Sam is smart, clever and a great dad. But he’s also
paralyzed by insecurity, and he feels like he’ll really never
make much of himself. He lives in the shadow of his far
more successful brother, and the jealousy still festers
between them to this day. He never finishes anything he
starts.
He dropped out of every school he enrolled in and he’s
been going from job to job, until he finally decided the only
marketable skill, he has is speaking Spanish, because of his
Salvadorian stepmother, the only one in his family who’s
ever had any faith in him.
So Sam gets a job as a Spanish wire tap interpreter for the
DEA. Now he’s listening to a bunch of criminals, and he’s
totally intrigued by the chase, the deciphering, the coded
language, the mystery. He thinks that maybe he’s found his
calling….and listening in on someone else’s life is better
than looking at his own anyway.
He fell in love with NICOLE, an immigrant from Ecuador, but
he started to feel that she wanted a green card a lot more
than a husband, so Sam felt betrayed. They had a kid,
which created more problems and fighting. Then she
cheated on him with a more successful guy, who she ends
up marrying, so makes Sam feels even worse.
