built in the 3rd century BC on
TPharos Island, guided sailors

for centuries. Standing about 100
metres tall, it was one of the Sev-
en Wonders of the Ancient World.

Earthquakes damaged it over time,
and its ruins were later used to
build Qaitbay Citadel.
