Theme 7:
Position school Network Infrastructure for the Future
Who are the main leads and what do they need to do?
Staff and students require a robust and secure network to communicate in order to carry out teaching
and learning activities as well as administrative responsibilities. By implementing best practices and
standards to improve the school's wired and wireless infrastructure, the school will aim toward a
unified school network through competitive vendor agreements.
Recommendation Summary
● Prepare the school's wired and wireless network infrastructure to support the teaching/learning,
administrative, and communication functions.
● Implement "security zones" on the network to restrict access to vital and sensitive information
to those with a need to know.
● By implementing technology standards and best practices, the school will move toward
establishing a unified network across all parts of each campus.
Key Benefits to the school
● Positions the school to enhance efficiency using new technologies including high quality, high definition
IP voice, video and data.
● Establishes network security zones to ensure that only authorized individuals are accessing the
sensitive data that they need to be productive.
● Ensures role‐based access to information and services to all members of the school
community.
● Enhances the school’s ability to deliver mobile applications to the school community.
● Provides reliable access to school “cloud” infrastructure, platform and applications services
that will allow the school to take advantage of new applications and services in a timely
manner.
● Ensures that Hostels and Staff residences have access to a fast and reliable network.
