A Night in
Ile-Ife
Celebrating the Heartbeat of
Yoruba Culture
n Saturday, November 9th, we transformed
our dining hall into the Yoruba city of Ile-Ife,
Obringing the vibrant culture of Yoruba to life
BOARDING
in an unforgettable theme night. We began with
a play about Oduduwa, the legendary founder of
the Yoruba people. From there, the night unfold-
ed with a variety of elements celebrating Yoruba
culture, including a fact file, traditional games,
and a Yoruba Hall of Fame, where we honoured
LIFE
the figures who have shaped and inspired the
culture over generations. The energy continued
with a series of dance performances, each one
reflecting a different era in Yoruba history.
Our final act was a colourful fashion show fea-
turing traditional Yoruba attire like Adire dress-
es, Iro and Buba, Batik agbadas and Aso Oke.
Each outfit on the runway celebrated the unique
beauty and style of Yoruba fashion. And, of
course, the food was just as much a highlight as
the performances! The traditional dishes, espe-
cially the amala, were a huge hit and added so
much to the experience.
NOVEMBER 9TH, 2024
In the end, all our hard work paid off as we won Chidalu-Paul Nwafor (Year 11 Benue) on her
the competition! But more than winning, it was a Experience the Oduduwa Theme Night
night of honouring Yoruba culture and creating
an experience that would forever resonate with
everyone present.
