              TEA Recognizes Dual Language Program

Losoya Middle School 8th grader Omar Guevara recently

moved to San Antonio from Mexico. Omar didn’t know a word
of English. However, after a short time in Mr. Lucian Bogran’s
dual language classroom, Guevara suddenly found himself
speaking English clearly. “When I heard myself speaking

English well, I was so happy that I shouted out, “I can speak
English!” He added, “Now, I am not shy at speaking with other
                                                        people.”

His teacher, Mr. Lucian Bogran, isn’t at all surprised. He says
the District’s dual language program structure has a proven

track record of success for students. “Our students see that if
they work hard, they can achieve their dreams. They come from
places where there is no opportunity and our dual language
Losoya Teacher of the Year Lucian Bogran helps student Omar
Guevara. class positions students for the chance to live the American
        Dream,” he said.

It’s work like this that has caught the eye of state’s education system. The Texas Education Agency has published

the work of 12 Southside Independent School District teachers on the Texas Gateway, a TEA-organized website
for educators. Additionally, several lessons were on dual language, which constitutes the only dual language
lessons presented on the TEA website so far. “What an incredible feat for Southside,” exclaimed Bilingual Director
Mrs. Adriana Bermea. “Although we are a small district, we now hold the prestigious honor of the most published

dual language teachers published on the TEA site.”
